Melissena:
Addendum
While poking around some genealogy sites I learned that Melissena had a
sister - Procopius. I had to know if any of her progeny went on to marry into
any of the elite families of Europe I was familiar with.
Took me about 20 seconds to find it. Procopius' line
connects to the family of the Varangian Rus of Kiev, and through them
the Arpads, via Anastasia of Byzantium. Below is the genealogy of
this connection, a second route by which the blood of Melissena's (and,
it turns out, her sister Procopius') Khazar ancestors flowed into the
royal houses of Europe.
(I thought it interesting that Anastasia's great-grandfather Romanos
married an Arab princess, and so I included her.)
